How about a catered picnic
lunch on the white sand dunes of New Point Comfort Island? This cruise is a little longer than the
others since we will stop for lunch at the island. You will feel like you are on the Outer Banks of North
Carolina when you step ashore from the ship’s launch onto the pristine beach
that encircles New Point Island.
Go shell collecting for oyster, clam, whelk, and scallop shells; swim the warm waters; cast a line in
for the bountiful fish; observe
the dolphin as they make their way past the island to their favorite fishing
grounds just inside Mobjack Bay; watch the distant shipping cut through the
water on their way down bay to ports unseen. Your picnic is catered by Southwind Restaurant in Mathews Courthouse. Cost is $300/couple. Add $25 for additional passengers. We leave the dock at 11:00 and return
at 3:00.
There is no better way to see Mathews County than from the water with its secret coves, wildlife and hidden estates. Join Mobjack Sailing on our C-Hawk 222 for a tour of rivers creeks and lighthouses. At the bottom of Mobjack bay Thomas Jefferson commissioned New Point Comfort Light in the 1800's to protect shiipping from the shifting shoals of sand. Just a few miles north of New Point is Wolf Trap Light, named for a British merchant ship that grounded there. See these sights and more that make Mathews a beautiful county.
